Signs you’re ready for an
Online Business Manager

So you know that, in order to scale your business, you need support. But is an Online Business Manager (OBM) the solution?

There are so many options, and let’s be honest, acronyms, in the online world it can be hard to decipher between a VA, EA, SMM, OBM…

So who is the right person to turn your clearly defined plans for the future of your business into a reality? And how are you supposed to know when it’s the right time to expand your team?

Assuming you’ve already read my post about what an Online Business Manager is (😉), let’s dive straight in and figure out whether they are the key to unlocking your next level in business.

Business has grown, but with that, so have the hours you’re working

Not exactly the reason you set up your business, right? To be working more hours than when you were in corporate. You’re passionate about supporting others and helping them through your courses and 1:1 packages, so up until now you’ve told yourself you don’t mind, as you love seeing your clients’ transformations. But unfortunately that’s not the only work you’re doing. There’s more that goes into running a business than turning up and supporting your clients.

Which leads me onto my next point…

You already outsource (to a VA/SMM) but are still just treading water

Hiring your Virtual Assistant, Social Media Manager or Marketing Assistant provided some temporary relief, you managed to offload some of the tasks you don’t enjoy and that take up too much of your time. But you need more than a team to delegate tasks to (and managing the team in itself can prove to be quite time consuming). You need someone with expert operational knowledge who can have your business running like a well-oiled machine.

You have a steady stream of clients and sold out services

Now, fortunately you’re no longer at the stage of worrying about where your next client is going to come from or living in feast or famine mode. You have an engaged audience who you’ve connected with, you understand them, their needs and desires. You know you’re able to help them and have proven this time and time again with previous clients. But you’re at a bottleneck. There are only so many clients you can support with the time you have available, and at this rate you don’t know how you’re going to support the amount of clients you dream of.

You’ve hit an income ceiling & don’t have capacity to break through

Obviously a big deciding factor for any investment – finances. Right now you’re at capacity, and the only way you can see to increase your income is to raise your prices. But let’s look at it another way. Let’s use an example of a 3 month 1:1 programme costing £3,000. Within that, your clients get a 60 minute call every 2 weeks, plus Voxer support. For the purpose of this, we’ll say they use 2 hours a month of your time on Voxer, so that’s a total of 4 hours (calls and Voxer), making your time worth £250 per hour. But what about all of the other things you’re doing that either lead to signing clients or support your existing clients? Sending onboarding questionnaires, pre-session forms and documents, setting up invoices, scheduling calls, enrolling them in bonus courses, collating feedback and testimonials…and that’s just for one client. That doesn’t include the rest of the back end tasks, everything that goes into your launches, your marketing strategy etc. All of these tasks add up, and take your time away from doing the things you enjoy, that light you up, and that generate the most money in your business. By investing in an OBM, you don’t have to worry about those tasks. You have someone who can manage the day to day of your business, so you can focus on your clients. All of that ⬅️ enables you to break through that income barrier you’re currently stuck at.

You’re focussing on the day-to-day, not the long-term scaling plans

You’re in this for the long haul, so why are you just focussing on your short term goals? Ah yes, you don’t have time for long term scaling plans. The day to day operations of the business are important, but not what you, as the visionary CEO of the business, should be pouring your time into. Frankly, your time is worth more. At the moment, you’re occupying the role of both the CEO and the OBM, doing tasks you don’t enjoy and that aren’t in your zone of genius. With an OBM on your team, you have a partner you can strategise with, someone you can bounce ideas off and someone who is going to turn your business dreams into reality.

If you’re sat there reading through thinking “yep, yep, that sounds like me”, it might be time to think about the impact an Online Business Manager could have on you and your business.
